ASTRO Fig 5 K⁺ Dynamics in Fully Reconstructed Four CA1 Astrocytes (Savtchenko LP et al., 2018)

A NEURON implementation of the K⁺ accumulation and clearance curves from Figure 5 of Savtchenko et al. (2018, Nature Communications), using four CA1 astrocytes to reproduce that panel. By focusing on the regions modeled in Fig 5, this setup isolates transporter‑ and Kir4.1 channel‑mediated currents as well as spatial buffering to match the published profiles.

Experimental motivation: To pinpoint how local astrocyte morphology contributes to K⁺ transients, we modeled only the compartments used in Fig 5 of the original study—four fully reconstructed CA1 astrocytes—constrained by electrophysiology and imaging data.
